Boston Business Journal: Here Are The Tech Firms Hiring The Most In The Boston Area This Year - ON Partners

There has been a lot of noise in the Boston tech world this year — including a flurry of startups raising $100 million rounds and the emergence of $1 billion venture funds. But as the year draws to a close, a look at hiring numbers from the first three quarters of 2018 paints a clear picture of who's really leading the way in the local tech industry. Here's a hint: it's not always homegrown firms. See the attached slideshow on how many people the top tech companies in the Boston area (within 50 miles of the city) have hired so far this year.

The data was compiled from LinkedIn data by John Barrett, a Boston-based partner at recruiting firm ON Partners. Barrett has been putting together quarterly hiring reports using this method since 2012 and says that during that time there's been hardly any movement at the top of his list. In the past six years, Wayfair (NYSE: W), Amazon, and HubSpot have been the "primary drivers" of cumulative headcount growth in the local industry, Barrett said.

“Nobody else really even comes close,” Barrett said. “What I would like to see in Boston is more diversity of companies that are doing well.” Read more
