Steven Dixon Named Senior Vice President, Engineering at Avio USA
Avio USA, the American start-up arm of a leading international group specializing in space launchers and solid, liquid, and cryogenic propulsion systems, has appointed Steven Dixon as Senior Vice President of Engineering.
With more than 25 years of engineering leadership across solid rocket propulsion, energetics, and defense programs, Dixon brings rare, directly relevant experience: he has twice built U.S. engineering organizations from the ground up for the American arm of an international propulsion company — expertise that maps precisely to Avio USA's mission of establishing domestic solid rocket motor capacity.
Before joining Avio USA, Dixon served as an engineer at Lockheed Martin. Prior to that, he spent several years at Aerojet Rocketdyne, where he served as Chief Engineer and later Senior Manager of Engineering at the company's Huntsville site, leading a 35-person project engineering organization, chairing the Engineering Review Board, providing technical leadership across solid rocket development and production programs, and serving as the technical interface with prime contractors and government customers.
Earlier, as Executive Director of Engineering and Advanced Technology at Nammo Defense Systems, Dixon created the engineering organization for Nammo's U.S. propulsion startup — working daily with the U.S. CEO on business strategy, site selection, staffing, and budgets, and managing technology transfers from Nammo's Norwegian parent. He previously stood up the engineering organization at Nammo Energetics Indian Head in a similar role. Dixon began his industry career with nearly 16 years as a design engineer at Orbital ATK in Rocket Center, West Virginia.
